It is my beleif that God and Christ existed, two entities as One, in the beginning before the universe was created. John 1:1&2 tells us, 1) “In the beginning the Word already existed. 2)The Word was with God and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God.” Both the apostle John and Genesis define two Divine Beings. To me that’s saying, God and the Word/Jesus were together before creation. John 1:14 states that, “So the Word became human and made his home among us… and we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son. In Daniel 7:9,13&22, the Word and the one later known as God the Father, is called the Ancient Days. God is refered to as the Ancient One.
Jesus in the flesh experienced all the temptations we humans face. He resisted every test and trial he faced, rejecting temptation head on. He was perfect, sinless, pure as a newborn lamb. He was the Lamb of God setting out on a pre-destined, unalterable purpose – save the human race. Jesus spent his adult life travelling with his chosen disciples teaching all who would listen about God; His love and plan for us. As he journied He healed many people giving witness to his powers. He performed all sorts of miracles proving God had afforded Him as his Son special powers. Hearing what Jesus was saying and seeing what he was capable of doing, multitudes believed in and followed Him. Jesus was loving, tolerant, and forgiving during his travels.
Paul in Phillipians was teaching the values of Servitude. In Phillipians 2:5-8 He said that we must follow the greatest act of humulity. He said in verse 5, “You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.” Though Jesus was God, he did not think of himself as equal to God. He saw himself in the position of a humble slave. (Verse 7) He saw himself as a human and humbled himself to the obedience of God, exampling for us how we should act towards one another; loving, caring for, and serving one another. Because Jesus did this, his Father placed him in authority over all things, someone we should bow down to. (Phillipians 2:9)
I mention all of this because in the Crucifixion of Christ, under the New Covenant, anyone who believes in Christ and has faith that He is their Savior and professes their sins to God (Repentance), is promised Salvation through the blood of Christ. This does not mean we can go on sinning the way we were and expect to be Saved. We must make a real effort to be more Christ-like and try to live by His example. We must follow the last command Jesus gave the night before his death; love and serve one another. God knows we can never be perfect on this earth but he does expect us to try. We must also take care of ourselves as our bodies are a gift from God not to be abused. When we do fall short, he will be there for us. He will lift us up, forgive us, and give us the strength and protection to percevere. When our time comes, God will take us home to His Kingdom and make us perfect; perfect and whole, mind, body and soul. We will live eternally by His side.
I contemplate Christ’s Sacrifice and Resurrection all through the year. This is the most important foundation to my Faith. That he, Jesus, can so greatly love someone as unworthy as me is unfathomable. I feel so much love, gratitude, and appreciation for what he did for me, for us; my heart breaks for him. During Lent, Holy Week, Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday especiallly my concentration and emotions intensify greatly.
Thank you, Jesus!
